Trying To Get It Off My Chest - Frank Carillo
Переглядів 63Місяць тому
Trying To Get It Off My Chest (Ian Hunter and Mick Ronson). Met Ian and Mick when I was playing with Tim Hardin at The Other End. They came to the shows every night. We became friends and it was a real buzz for me as I was a fan of the two of them. We were staying at The Mayflower hotel while I was recording my second LP for Atlantic and Mick and Ian were producing Ellen Foley's album. We would...
Happy Birthday George / Adventures With Tim Hardin - Frank Carillo
Переглядів 67Місяць тому
Happy Birthday George / Adventures with Tim Hardin Tim was one of the few geniuses that I ever met. He was brilliant, kind talented and a bit crazy. I was always a fan and when I got the chance to play with him at the Phil Ochs Memorial at the Felt Forum, I jumped at the chance. Mary Frampton called me and asked if I would accompany Tim and that's how the whole thing started.
Riding With The Bee Gees and Yvonne Elliman - Frank Carillo

I was lucky enough to play with Yvonne Elliman and also having her as a close friend. As she was on RSO Records we were scheduled to do Soundstage in Chicago wth the Bee Gees. That was the first time that I had met them. We went to an outdoor show that the Bee Gees were doing and then the next day we were in the Soundstage studios. It was one of the best times I ever had. Funny and lots of grea...

Barbara Bixby Carillo: Thumbs Included - Frank Carillo

My wife Barbara is an amazing jewelry designer as well as a musician. She plays piano (can read what I call fly paper) and guitar. She writes melodies and counterpoint and amazes me all the time. We were in Belgium at George Kooyman's house and George and I convinced her to record one of her songs. Barbara and I played acoustic guitars and then it was time for vocals. She did it in one take (by...
Glasgow Soul - James Dewar / Robin Trower - Frank Carillo

James Dewar / Robin Trower - Glasgow Soul had the honor of knowing some of the greatest singers and musicians I have ever met. I was blessed to know some of the greatest. Their influence has been so important. Get to the root of the song and sing like it will be your last. God bless Scotland. This video is about Jimmy Dewar and Maggie Bell, who used to be in a band called Stone The Crows. It te...
Fishing With Paul - Frank Carillo
Переглядів 1 тис.2 місяці тому
This was one of the funniest moments I can remember. Paul Rodgers and I were fishing out of the window of the Edge Water Inn in Seattle. I don't want to give away too much but it was one hell of an evening involving sharks, EMSs and a guy falling from the baclony. This story also tells about Boz Burrell picking up Frank on their way through Europe and Paul Orofino being told he was talking to D...

Two Goldens And A Byrd - Frank Carillo

Two Goldens and a Byrd: Annie Golden, Golden Earring and Ricky Byrd. I was lucky enough to have been musically and friendship wise involved with this lot. And so the story continues. Annie and I had a duo that wound up touring in Europe more times than I can count. Golden Earring became fast friends and George Kooymans and I are like brothers. When the Bandoleros toured Europe for the first tim...
Riding With Sir August (Augie Meyers) - Frank Carillo
Переглядів 2094 місяці тому
Frank recalls the moment he first saw Augie Meyers. It was on Shindig! with The Sir Douglas Quintet and Frank was only fourteen years old. They played 'She's About A Mover' and Augie had a great sound, then years later who knew what great friends they've become. He talks about the first time he met him, it was at the rehearsals for John Hammond's Wicked Grin tour. There was Tom Waits, Larry Tay...
Just Like You - Frank Carillo

Frank talks about meeting Keb' Mo and how he uses the same guitar and pedals as Frank. He mentions what a dick Chuck Berry was to Augie Meyers, who played keyboards on two of his records. When he was on tour playing a festval in Sardinia he met Robben Ford. This was 'The Wicked Grin' tour for John Hammond. He also recorded the album called 'Ready For Love' being produced by David Hidalgo of 'Lo...
Wheres The Jelly?
Переглядів 1628 місяців тому
When he was on tour with John Hammond he was sitting in a restaurant with Clarence Gatemouth Brown. Going on he mentions how Gatemouth would put jelly on pasta when they were in Italy. He says he puts it on everything. Frank says that George Harrison let him play a Zemaitis Guitar that he had built for Robben Ford. George would have guitars made for his friends like Eric Clapton and Bob Dylan. ...

Great job
🙄🥀🌱💙
Whew !!!! I went to JHS and High School with Frank, and remember the Young Blues playing at our JHS 172Q dances. It only got better from there!!! Incredibly underrated, and he deserves all success he his achieved and more !!!!!
I wish this version was published on apple music
He was someone everyone knew could REALLY play !!! He understood how to create jazz music !
A superb and great artist. Australia ❤️
Great song
Benefit for Ukraine with Frank and friends at Mulcahy's tonight. Going to church!
Proper shit
Hey dad it's me commenting from Elena's phone! 😘
Hot...hOT...HoT...
R.I.P Eddie ..quite a guy !
@Ellora, Steve Boger used to tell me, get upstate to take a lesson with Eddie Diehl! Now I live 20 minutes North of Poughkeepsie and regret never having taken the trip to meet your Dad. Regrets suck! He’s an inspiration, a beautiful musician and I’m sure a great Dad.
To the person who videotaped this, THANK YOU! To have the great Eddie Diehl, a true master of taste and musicality, forever accessible to jazz aficionados and musicians who care to see how it’s done, is a gift.
I somehow missed this great artist. Great song, great lyrics. Love it!
Sorry I am slightly late in my reply.. Frank also sings with George Kooymans from the band Golden Earring Unfortunately George is fatally ill with motor neurone. Keep safe.
@@avengernemesis7990 So sorry to hear that
Hi Frank. Can't stop playing this. The imagery is outstsnding. Gorgeous melody. And we we ALL there in that one special summer of our lives.. Thanks for the contribution the language of music.
Ellora...I first heard you dad play in Danny Armstrong's repair shop...across the street from Manny's (West 48st)...about 1965. He was playing good back then.
Is he the guy that worked at Can Armstrong's .. Way back when. He did repair work?
Yes...
same
Frank is great. Thank you for uploading.
This guy is the coolest "white" guy playing this r'n'b jazz crossover stuff on the web hands down. His harmonic understanding and phrasing is effortless. Didn't know he played with Hank Mobley (another genius) would have loved to meet Eddie. Great band too.
history has shown that it doesn't really matter if the shell has hardware on it, penetrating it or anything else to sound great. Some of the best sounding drums ever had big tom arms going right into the shells, big mounts on them and lots of heavy lugs. Doesn't matter. The rest is gimmicks and marketing nonsense.
Dude! That was awesome!!!
Seminal. Fluid. Dynamic.
Cool, good ,fun.
Miss you daddy... love you much...
Frank has the most beautiful guitars I've ever seen. Great song, great band, too!
Looks lovely and peaceful. I’ve heard the cook is amazing! Hopefully we can make it up there to experience this quaint Bed and Breakfast.
One of Eddie's D'Angelico's..
Great playing! I can't help but think that new heads would've really helped the tone.
It's too bad that the toms aren't close mic'd - I'd really be interested in hearing the resonance potential in this lug and mounting style. Support on all lugs should really help the resonance, but I can also see that extra pressure on the tension rods from the suspension could be the reason behind the high and thin tone. Great use of space though, love the phrasing through figures!
Git it fellas...
Great video. Love the old school film feel too
Loved THAT!
Missing my Dad...
@elloradiehl8384 as I continually come back to these videos it’s easy to see why. He was an undersung great of jazz guitar and I’m sure a great Dad. He’s here in spirit.
It’s a lovely song. Good to see Simon giving it an airing.
Total clone of Steve Gadd here.
I have been thinking about this for a little while. It seem's CRAZY to go threw so much trouble perfecting drum shell's than put lug'a on them! I dug the idea of the Peavey Radial pro drum's too.(But why on Gods green earth did they use the Peavey name! They should have done the Toyota-Lexus thing, change the name. Peavey should have known drummer's would not have wanted a "Peavey' drum kit.-And they could have made them look cooler.) This design really make's alot of sense.
He reminds me of Steve Gadd.
Hey, great stuff!
Ah...ok, "In the Pines" - Leadbelly = "Where did you sleepless Night" - Nirvana = "Black Girl" by the Four Pennies!! Wow, that song has def gotten around!! Thanks for the history lesson...and best of luck with the new record!
I can't wait to get this
hi there! I'm new in your channel what's the name of your stick that you using on the tom-toms and also on the floor tom? what does it called (please and thank you)
Yikes, 2 years no answer, kinda blows. What he's using are timpani mallets, great for round tones with less attack on toms, and they can be used for a cool sounding crescendo roll on the cymbals. But if you want that effect on cymbals, super soft vibe/marimba mallets are the way to go (soft heads, meaning think yarn)
Love it!! Magga Blue is next? ;)
The sound coming out of those toms and snare is absolutely wonderful! Wouldn't mind getting myself some of that.
Hey, did u do "Magga Blue" that night? haha...wld love to hear that bro!
Slap them tubs.
This particular video shows a rudimental master at work. The Downing bass drums can be set up with heads of various amounts of damping for different tasks; Evans/D'Addario CB24G2's would have been my first choice for this situation, given the historical use of open heads in bands.
Are these Ludwig/Conn-Selmer heads this video? The emblems are consistent with the Rockers and Striders lines of crimplocked heavies (the classic WeatherMasters use a linked-circles trademark).
Oh h-e-double hockey sticks yes! :)
Great new stuff my friend
